How we check facts
Most pages about starting a trucking company are written by companies selling filings, insurance, or factoring. We don't sell any of those. We publish a fee, deadline, or rule only after reading it in an official source, and we link that source.
Where the figures come from
- FMCSA's own pages, forms, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR)
- IRS forms and instructions (Form 2290)
- The UCR Plan, IFTA, Inc., and the International Registration Plan
- State tax and motor vehicle agencies and state law
- Neutral research groups, named on the page, for figures such as operating costs
Filing services, insurers, and blogs help us find leads, but we never publish a figure that only they report.
Calculators
Every number a calculator uses comes from the same verified data as the page text, and its source is listed under the calculator. Results are estimates: your actual bill comes from the agency.
Insurance prices
Insurers set their own premiums and don't publish them, so we don't quote prices. We explain what coverage the law requires, what each kind of coverage does, and what neutral research reports about costs.
How current it is
Each page shows when it was last reviewed. Fees such as UCR and the 2290 tax change on their own schedules; we recheck every page at least once a year.
